Doug’s Q-TIps – How to Create SAP Multi-Lingual Channels

The new-gen QMODs can create channels with multiple language tracks; using the SAP function in TVs and tuners.

Here’s how you can set this feature up for a QMOD-SDI 2 :

SDI2 Audio2

You can assign SDI Group 1 and Group 2 for two SDI feeds into Program A and Program B:

  • Select Program A
    • Assign the Audio 1 Input to SDI Group 1, Language as English
    • Assign the Audio 2 Input to SDI G 2, Language as Spanish
  • Select Program B
    • Assign the Audio 1 Input to SDI Group 1, Language as English
    • Assign the Audio 2 Input to SDI G 2, Language as Spanish
  • You could also carry two different languages for the second SDI feed, giving your 4 languages between the two programs
  • Presently, you can’t assign the same SDI video input to both Programs, using G1 and G2 for Program A, then G3 and G4 to Program B.
  • You can also use both analog audio inputs for the second audio feed; SPDIF inputs may limit one SDI input to one SDI Group

The same process works for all new-gen QMODs:

  • QMOD-SDI 1.5 – Assign the SDI input to both Programs, then yse SDI G1 and G2 for the first program, assign analog 1 and 2 to Program B for the two additional SAP selections for the same video
  • QMOD-HDMI 1.5 – Use HDMI, SPDIF 1 or Analog 1 audio, RGB/YPB use SPDIF 2 and Analog 2 audio
  • QMOD-HDMI 2 –HDMI 1 can use HDMI, SPDIF 1, or Analog 1 audio, HDMI 2 can use HDMI 2,  SPDIF 2, or Analog 2 audio
  • QMOD-YPB2 can assign SAP audio using the SPDIF and analog stereo inputs

Presently, we include English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and German to display on the SAP menu, other names can be added as needed. The second audio channel will be MPEG 1 Layer 2 format.
