Contemporary Research specializes in creating bulletproof video solutions designed for easy integration. The QIP-DVX is more than an IPTV decoder – it’s a set of tools that simplifies installation in every phase, an environment for local and facility-wide control, a people-friendly approach for operation, and part of a system of QIP IPTV Encoders and Display Express solutions. In short, AV Over IP – made easy.
IP Control Environment
An IPTV system operates in a DHCP environment – a multicast begins and ends with requests broadcast to all units on the network. The QIP-DVX is controlled similarly – commands are broadcast to all units, and a DVX decoder only responds if the command includes its QIP device, zone, or all-call number. No need for static IP addresses.
Network Integration
Before the IP network is active, an installer can use the QIP-DVX front-panel buttons, or IR Remote to enable instant setup and testing while integrating the decoder with displays. Using on-screen menus, they can choose CEC, RS-232, or IR display control, and control codes from an onboard database. The unit’s device number, from 1-4000 can be set as well. At this point, the installer knows that local video and control connections are working.
Once the network is live, a tech can use the free CR Toolbox app to scan the network for QIP-DVX decoders. Click each unit’s Web page to define the device number, name, display control (RS-232, IR, or CEC), create or download a channel list, upgrade firmware, and test decoder/display control.
At this point the IPTV system is fully operational. Long before a local or central control system is completed, clients can control multicast streams with an IR remote, or a Web page in the decoder. Channel up/down, enter channel 2, 2.1 or whatever – easy peasy. And the integrator knows the IPTV system is working.
Take Control
The simplest control system could integrate the DVX and display from a wireless or wired IR port. A single-room or central control systems can easily send commands to a single, zone, or all DVX decoders over one LAN port. Other sites, typically entertainment venues, use the CR IP-DXL Display Control Center for Web and scheduled control. Take control from a PC, tablet or phone. For large-scale control, PC-based Display Express can manage thousands of decoders.
AV over IP Made Easier
In short, we’ve smoothed out all the rough spots common to systems installations. Owner-furnished TVs are different than stated? Don’t change your control system programming – select a different DVX port or control code type and move on. Client renamed channel names? Just edit your list and shoot it to all displays. Is there a bug in your control system code or IPTV system? Test control with CR Toolbox or CR Viewer for a quick answer.
